Cascade Colleague – David Thomas

News

Meet David Thomas, a Managing Director of Cascade Partners with over 30 years of investment banking experience, 14 of which were spent on Wall Street. David’s journey began as an intern in the equity research department at Prudential Bache Securities. While there he spear-headed the conversion of the 30-person sell-side securities research department from pencil and paper ledgers to the Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet technology.

He launched his Wall Street career at Hambrecht & Quist (H&Q) in 1983 as an associate analyst, covering software and IT services industries. Here, he was involved in multiple initial public offerings (IPOs), including Informix, SHL SystemHouse, and Paychex. David was also the first Wall Street technology analyst to publish a market-cap weighted software and services industry stock price performance index that featured component stock price and their earnings movements.

Fun fact: David was promoted to Senior Software & Services Industry Analyst on Black Monday, October 19, 1987, when the stock market crashed by almost 25% in a single day. David has also been CEO of a startup software company, and he was personally hired by Larry Ellison and Jeff Walker to work at Oracle to help launch the company’s first applications software solutions in 1989-91. In his free time, David loves to golf and scuba dive with his family when he’s not actively closing deals and sharing his decades of knowledge with the team.
