Meet Matt Feldman, Director, Cascade Partners! Matt’s been with the firm for over four years and brings 15 years of investment banking experience. In addition to executing transactions and business development, he helps lead the execution team staffing and recruiting efforts.
After receiving his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, where he graduated with high distinction, Matt headed to New York City to pursue a career in investment banking, lured by the exciting possibility of having a deal of his discussed in the Wall Street Journal or on CNBC.
What caused him to stay the course was the variety and complexity of the transactional work and the ability to help people in a meaningful way.
“Being able to help a family achieve a liquidity event after years, decades, or generations of building a successful business is meaningful. Helping them set their business up for the next phase of success and seeing how the company grows over time is very rewarding.”
– Matt Feldman
During his career, Matt has been involved in transactions totaling well over $30 billion in enterprise value. Select transactions include H.J. Heinz Company’s sale to Berkshire Hathaway and 3G Capital, the sale of Sur-Seal to Capital Partners, the Estée Lauder Companies’ acquisition of GlamGlow, and the sale of InterWrap to Owens Corning.
Matt said of his move back to Michigan and eventually Cascade Partners, “I am able to help privately held companies achieve outcomes and successes that they likely never thought possible before working with Cascade.” During the recent pandemic, he helped close a deal for two such companies just before midnight on New Year’s Eve.
When asked what advice he would give his younger self, Matt said, “Work hard, learn as much as you can early in your career, spend time doing things outside the office, and don’t take work too seriously. There are many other important things besides work, starting on Wall Street, that gets lost.”
Matt still works hard for clients but now spends quality time with his wife and two young sons. He enjoys traveling whenever they can get away, attending sporting events (he’s a University of Michigan and Detroit sports team fan), and live concerts. He is also a supporter of two leading Metro Detroit Jewish non-profit organizations: The Well which focuses on creating and fostering an accessible, inclusive, relationship-driven community for young adults and families with young children and JFamily Detroit, which specializes in creating innovative Jewish family experiences. Through these organizations, Matt enjoys learning more about his heritage, so he can share that knowledge with his sons as they grow.
